Paul Merton And The World’s Largest Tricycle
Last October showed the broadcast of Paul Merton in India after the successful launch of Paul Merton in China. It saw Paul Merton, the Comedian, travel through some of India’s biggest cities and slums. He visited places like Delhi and Rajasthan. He found that India was a very large country, with lots of people and the streets were crowded. He saw cows on the streets for the first time.
He starts his journey in Delhi, Punjab, Shillong, Hyderabad and then finally Mumbai. Throughout his journey he learnt various new things from the locals. In Delhi he took a course in etiquette, learning how to eat with the right hand and burping to show how much the food was appreciated. He then went on to ride a stationary plane built by Mr Gupta. Who assembled the plane from scraps for the benefit of the locals who cannot afford to go abroad and therefore riding on this plane is the closest they would get to ride an aircraft.
Over the next few weeks he goes to Punjab and visits the prosthetic clinic in Jaipur that helps over 20,000 people each year. Paul then goes to Hyderabad and sees how vibrant the city is while visiting one of the largest IT call centre industries. One of Paul’s biggest highlights in Hyderabad was Snow World, an amazing refrigerated leisure park for the locals who get to experience snowfall whenever they want.
Paul’s second highlight in Hyderabad was his visit to the local transport museum where he sees the world’s largest tricycle built by Mr Sudhakar. The tricycle is 41 feet tall from the ground, each wheel weighs over 800kg and the complete tricycle took 3 years to build. Sudhakar’s 3 years of hard work and manual labour paid off when he gained recognition through the Guinness Book of World Records for building the largest tricycle.
Sudhakar has never actually rode the cycle and I don’t think he ever will because it would be an absolute nightmare to sit on as well as ride because you’d probably have to pedal 300 times more for one revolution than you would on an average sized tricycle. I would possibly consider climbing up and sitting on it just for the sake of taking a picture but that’s about as far as I would go.
