Focus Culebro - The Power Of German Precision

April 10th, 2011

Focus as you may know are a German manufacture of high performance precision bikes. But what exactly is the deal for your money with Focus Bikes? Most riders  can talk for a minute  about the Focus Izalco and the Focus Cayo, but what about the Focus Culebro?

The Focus Culebro is a smart bike to behold with good smooth handling. It feels extremely light – and has an excellent range of gears. Significantly, people who were concerned about spending the extra sponduliks have said that they do not regret their decision for a minute.

“It’s very, very good value for the money”  - “the bike has top components”  - “excellent stability” – “It takes a bit of getting used to but it was well worth making the effort”. The following are pretty much standard assessments from owners of the Focus Culebro. Owners talk about not being able to believe the price when they take into account the top quality of the fitted components.

The heart of the bike is a hydroformed aluminum frame. A tapered carbon fork handles business at the front end. Focus has met the challenge head on of making an aluminum frame feel as if it is actually carbon. They have achieved this mainly because of the highly shaped main tubes and narrow stays.

So, when you need to beat the elements through sheer precision and power, you might just find that the Culebro is the perfect choice. The frame features an aerodynamic down tube, seat tube and a high performance fit.  Focus Bikes are quality engineering – but they are also undeniably pieces of art.

Cycling - The Professional Cyclists Riding Uniform - Engine Of The Rider

April 9th, 2011

Like many sports, professional bicyclists wear a self-fashioned uniform consisting of a cycling jersey, cycling shorts, cycling shoes, gloves and a helmet. When you hear the word cycling, most people conjure up an image of Lance Armstrong and the Tour de France. He wears the traditional cycling uniform.

In fact, manufacturers of cycles that fold up, typically design them specifically for getting you from your house to another mode of transportation. So whether you need to get to a bus stop, subway station or train station, this type of two-wheeler is perfect for your needs. While these bikes aren’t designed to give you a shot at winning the Tour de France, they’ll the perfect type of urban transport when you need to travel short distances quickly.

Besides their convenient function, another reason why these cycles are so popular is based on their form. These bicycles have 20-inch wheels like the BMX bicycles that many of us rode when we were youngsters. They also typically contain two main hinges: one on the handlebars and one at the middle of the cross member. Collapsing the cycle is a piece of cake. Afterwards, you can easily tote the bicycle around wherever you need to go, such as on a subway train or bus. This contraption makes it easier to take your cycle virtually anywhere.

The cycling shorts are often referred to as bike shorts. The padded portion of the shorts is called the chamois. Certain shorts are referred to as bib shorts. These shorts actually have suspender like shoulder straps that help hold them in place. Most people wear cycling shorts without underwear, so some shorts are treated with an anti-bacterial matter and others with a moisturizing lotion to help reduce chaffing. In either case, the shorts themselves are traditionally made from a spandex material.

Originally, cycling shoes were actually affixed to the bicycle pedal. However, today, many cycling shoes attach to the pedal with a cleat on the shoe. The clipless pedal shoe is a stiff-soled shoe that actually clips to the bike pedal. It offers the most energy efficiency. There are two different versions; one for mountain bikes and one for road bikes. The other option is a toe clip. This is actually not a shoe, but a clip that can be attached to any shoe. The toe clip is a more economical method than purchasing clipless pedal shoes.

Finally, tires tend to last for roughly 1,000-2,000 miles. This is based on various factors, such as your riding method, your weight, and the location of the tire (front or back). Tires are crucial for cycling, so you may need to upgrade them if their design or sizing is wrong for the primary type of riding that you do.

When shopping for bicycles, you should definitely consider trek bikes. For over 30 years, they’ve been producing some of the top cycles in the industry. You can find the perfect bike for whichever type of cycling you do. Who knows? Perhaps you could be the next Lance Armstrong!

Light And Fast Do-it-all Hardtail For 2011 From Jamis Bikes - The Durango 3

April 5th, 2011

Here we go the Jamis Durango 3 for 2011 review. Jamis bikes although well established in states have been away from UK scene for a while, but their back. Last month I’ve reviewed their entry level full carbon racer – see the Jamis Xenith Comp 2011 review, so what gets me always like first with Jamis is the kit you’re getting for your buck   And the Durango 3 is not an exception – for £749 you will get super light 6061 triple butted alloy frame, Rock Shox Tora fork, Hayes Ride stoppers and the 3×10 speed Sram X-7 drive-train, pretty amazing! There is not many brands there this year (except Cube and Boardman, to be fair) to give you anywhere near the equipment for at this price-point. The high quality components do reflect on the bikes overall weight – 12.3kg (27.1lbs) – which has fair reflection how does the bike feel under climbing and accelerating. Nimble and with ease

The MBUK magazine says about the Durango 3.0 in its May 2011 issue:
‘You’ll be lucky to find a lighter or better-equipped all-rounder than Jamis Durango 3 at this price’

Review Of The Bad Boy Range Of Hybrid Bikes From Cannondale

April 1st, 2011

The Cannondale Bad Boy range of hybrid bikes - style icons if ever there were. But are they able to deliver on the promises, or is the matt black look just for show?

In the beginning, hybrid bikes were the result of applying mountain bike ideas to road bike frames, to produce a go-anywhere machine equally suitable for off- and on-road riding.

Cannondale have started from the other end - turning a mountain bike into a road-friendly machine - the Bad Boy. To me the look is evident from the 26” wheels, wide tyres and the disc brakes.

What is the make-up of the various models?

Some features appear throughout the range. Hand built 6061 aluminium frames, finished in a sophisticated matt black are common to all. The front forks can all be fitted with disc brakes.

The design of the frame and forks means that either 26″ or 700mm wheels can be fitted. Cannondale stress that it is their intention that wheels can be chosen to suit the sort of riding you want to do.

All models have the same flat hybrid handlebars. The wheels are black, shod with specially designed Bad Boy tyres from Schwalbe. This makes for a very distinctive appearance to all Bad Boy bikes.

The entry-level model is the Bad Boy Al V26. V-brakes are fitted, as you might expect. But the fork has lugs that will take disc brakes if you decide to fit them later. The drivetrain uses basic Shimano components, giving 27 gears. The semi-slick 50mm tyres are a good combination of low rolling resistance and shock-absorbing for off-road. This bike should be able to perform in all terrains.

Changes to the brake system is the only difference in the Bad Boy Al. It has Tektro disc brakes, resulting in extra braking power and a more efficient off-road performance as grit and mud is kept away from the braking surfaces. This upgrade seems good value for money.

The Bad Boy Deore is the next model up the range and features gear components upgraded to Shimano Deore. Smoother, more reliable changing but still 27 gears. This model has narrower rims and 35 mm tyres. Should be quicker on the road, but still able to handle the grass and gravel. The rest of the specs are the same as the Al.

The R-SLX is the next up the Bad Boy range. A further upgrade to Shimano SLX gear mechs provides still better performance. Replacing the triple chainset with a double means that you now get only 18 gears. Together with a major change to the wheels, from 26″ to 700mm, shows that this is a bike aimed more at on-road performance. All the other aspects are unchanged.

The Bad Boy Ultra is the top of the range. There’s a major change from the R-SLX and that’s in the front fork and suspension. Rather than a conventional suspension fork, the Cannondale Headshock fork has just one suspension module, above the two fork legs. This is both simpler and lighter. It’s fitted with a lockout which you can engage for stability at speed. Other than the fork, it’s unchanged from the R-SLX. The Bad Boy Ultra must be the last thing in street riding.

The Cannondale Bad Boy range looks to have a bike for everyone. Even at the more modest end of the range, the quality is evident. But spend a bit more and you end up with a truly remarkable bike.

Once the rider is on the move, however, the electric motor ramps up to 10 miles per hour–fast enough to have fun, but not fast enough to be a menace on the street or sidewalk.

You can cruise up to 40 minutes with its long-life rechargeable battery, which takes about eight hours to fully charge

The E100 scooter is recommended for ages 8 and older and offers a maximum weight capacity of 120 pounds.

Key Features:

Other details include a folding handlebar mechanism for easy storage and transport, an 8-inch pneumatic front tire and 4.9-inch polyurethane rear wheel, and a hand-operated front brake.

It also comes with a 90-day warranty, a pair of 12-volt batteries, and a charger and tools.

You are responsible to know and obey all local, state, and federal regulations regarding the riding and use of scooters.

In short, Razor E100 electric scooter has been designed with a kid-friendly deck and frame, and travels up to 10 miles per hour! The front hand break is easy to use, and the battery allows up to 40 minutes of continuous use.

So, if you have no idea yet for your kid or grandkid birthday present, you may consider this Razor E100 as a choice.

Super Light Full Susser From Cubes AMS Mountain Bike Range

March 31st, 2011

Yet again Cube are here with the new AMS full suspension mountain bikes. This year round they have expanded the range a bit to accommodate the growing demand for do it all type of mountain bike. For 2011 there is loads to choose from – the 100/110/125/130/150 millimeters of rear travel ready full-bounce frames made of alloy or HPC carbon composite, combined with various levels of spec.

The one I’m going to concentrate today is the shorter travel aluminum variant – the AMS 110 SL. As the model suggests it is 110 mm travel full bouncer aiming for the occasional racer/ trail center warrior/ endurance event goer First thing first the value for your bob is fantastic (something you gte with every Cube bike).
The AMS 110 SL is top of its range and therefore the spec reflects it and relative you’re geting lot for the £2199 – Fox 32 F110 RLC FIT fork with 110mm and lockout, FOX  RP23 Boost Valve rear shock, EASTON EA50XC custom light/tough wheel set,  full 30 speed Shimano XT super reliable&crispy transmission, Shimano XT stoppers and custom Schwalbe kevlar racing tyres – just to highlight the best. All this comes fitted to well finished 7005 hydro-form triple butted alloy black anodized frame boasting many features – press fit BB30 bottom bracket, integrated rear brake post mount among many nifty little German touches (check the technology list for detailed description) The AMS is feather light as the SL (super light) its model name suggests) for is category and price, weighting only 11.5kg (25.3lbs) in 18’’ frame size.

So the Cube AMS 110 SL 2011 model is ideal bike for anyone who is in the market really sweet alloy full suspension mountain bike but doesn’t have necessarily unlimited budget, but wants the best kit going. The CUBE AMS 110 SL is a bike which will do it all – back door cross country, trail centre outing, endurance event with mates or you can race it if you wish.

Cube AMS Technologies:

Integrated Post Mount: The Postmount breaking absorption makes it possible for us to save extra parts. The not needed IS adapter with bolts saves approx. 30 g. This may not seem much, but it shows the potential comprised in the details.

Integrated Cable Routing: Internally routed cables offer many advantages: clean appearance, cables are protected from dirt and therefore have a considerably longer life and the not required external housing saves weight.

Laser Design Surface: On the high performance frames, graphics and texts are laser-cut into the material which makes them indestructible for a lifetime.

Wet Paint Surface: On polished and brushed aluminium and all HPC frames the logos and graphics are applied in multi-layer wet paint. We use this surface treatment technology mainly to save weight.

HPA: For high end, we use High Performance 7005 aluminum alloy which has a very low density combined with high strength due to the special alloy and the hardening heat treatment. By triple butting or even quadruple butted tubing, aluminum tubes are reinforced where required and reduced where possible. In addition we use Special tube shapes, manufactured with Hydroform technology to better cope with the directional forces. The low density and high strength as well as the butting and the Hydroform technology enable us to make high performance frames with an ultimate level of stiffness.

Efficient Ride Control: Here particular attention has been given to the fact that irrespective of body size EVERY rider can have the optimum and identical riding experience. Here on a model-by-model basis we have differently designed the linkage geometry so that all frame heights have the same travel and suspension ratio (STK).In addition the kinematics have been optimised specifically to travel in respect of sensitivity, drive and no bossing. For this it was necessary to specially position all rear pivot points. Whether the rider is large or small, with any of these models he will always have the optimum ride experience.

Press Fit BB: With press-fit bearings, the outer bearing ring is pressed directly into the frame housing and not screwed-in as usual. With its wider housing, the down tube and the chain stays are joined with the full width. Because the width of the housing is a parameter in calculating the stiffness, every millimeter of additional width gives a significant improvement of lateral stiffness, whilst retaining the comfort-bringing resilience of the chain stays.

Size Tuned Kinematic: Size Tuned Kinematic is a four-pivot suspension technology developed exclusively by CUBE. It guarantees that every frame in every size will have exactly the same dynamic properties for the designed and factual travel and response. To reach this, separate links had to be developed for each frame size.
Fox DTC: Elaborative developed kinematics are only able to function correctly if the associated suspension shocks is properly tuned to it. Connected with the new Fox Float RP23 Boost Valve shock and the DHX RC4 shock, we could achieve the best optimized performance.

FSS Frame Save System: To protect our high-end aluminum frames, they are built with the CUBE Frame Save System replaceable derailleur hanger. The thread is in the hanger and not in the frame as usual. In case of a crash, this hanger can be easily and quickly replaced by a new one.

Hydroforming System: A plain tube is placed in a mould with the specific form. The tube is filled with a mixture of liquids, often an oil mixture, which is put under high pressure. It presses the material into the negative form of the mould and gives it its shape. The manufacturing of this part concentrates, in the first place, on technical and stability issues related to the forces and stresses the part will be subject to as well as on reduced weight. Besides, hydroforming also has some great design aspects. Hydroforming enables us to make optimally light and strong shapes and internal partitions for our frames.

FSP4 link: The requirement for a continuously active and fully usable travel: The rear triangle is not affected by pedaling or especially braking forces. Regardless of the fact that a variety of other possibilities exists, we employ a four pivot chain stay construction. Here, one of the pivots is located between the dropout and the chain stay; this ensures that braking does not have a negative effect on the movement of the rear wheel. Thereby via the appropriate positioning of the remaining pivots, we obtain the finest riding qualities for our full suspension bikes in terms of uphill as well as downhill abilities.

CUBE say about AMS 110 SL:

Universal 4-Link-System aluminium frame with balanced geometry. Take it for races, marathons or your everyday rides. The 110mm fully active travel and the complete new 3×10 Shimano Deore XT meet all your needs.
