Where to Buy Your Bicycle

June 30th, 2009

All bicycle stores and shops carry parts and accessories for your bike – be it a performance bike, trek bike, or just for riding around the neighborhood with the kids.

When choosing a bicycle, decide where you are going to be doing most of your riding. That information will help you determine the price range and quality of bike you are looking for. If you are looking for an inexpensive, off-the-shelf bike, a department store or discount store might have what you need. However, bikes purchased from a specialist bicycle dealer usually have better parts and components, come fully assembled and checked by a bike mechanic before you leave the store.

Most bicycle shops also carry a large selection in many price ranges. Everyone is catered for in a good bicycle store; from the top-end road cycling enthusiasts – right down to kids with their first bikes. There are several types of bikes to from which to choose. One is the mountain or all-terrain bike. These bikes are designed for casual cycling and have the wider or ‘fat’ tires. You can ride these bikes on hard, dirt-packed roads or off-road. Other types of bikes are racers and touring bikes, which have narrower or ’skinny’ tires. Touring bikes are fitted out for long distance touring. Hybrid bikes are a cross between a road bike and mountain bike. They have upright handlebars and a tire somewhere between wide and narrow. Most bikes sold today for adults are multi-speed bikes with up to 24-speeds.

Picking the right Accessories

Bicycles have many accessories. The most important accessory you need to buy is a bike helmet. Bike helmets are compulsory for all cyclists. Wearing a helmet reduces the chance of serious head injury in an accident.

Another accessory you might want to consider purchasing is a pair of padded cycling shorts. These shorts come in many different styles and have extra padding in the seat to make riding more comfortable. Cycling gloves are a good investment for long rides.

A seat bag is handy for storing items such as a tire repair kit and extra tube. A pump attached to the frame, for pumping up your tires is also a good idea, or you might consider a water bottle that attaches to the bike frame.

Don’t Be Contained, Enjoy Sport Outside

June 30th, 2009

The outside world is sadly all but forgotten about by lots of people now. A lot of children and adults alike would prefer to spend their hours inside watching television, increasing their risk of obesity and heart disease. One of the most effective ways of getting to enjoy the outdoors again and understanding how good it can make you feel, is sport. Here is a look at 3 great sports that almost anyone can enjoy?

Mountain biking
. They say you never forget how to ride a bike…so what is stopping you getting on one now. You can pick up good second hand bikes now for next to nothing and you can look up good cycle routes on the internet very easily. Additionally, biking is one of those sports that is accessible to all ages and abilities as you can go as fast or as slow as you like

Kayaking
. If solid ground is a little too mundane for you then one brilliant water-based sport you might like to try is kayaking. Like mountain bikes there are plenty of fine used kayaks around and all you need other than that is an oar and a life jacket. It is advisable to go out with a professional first so that you can learn the ropes but once you’ve got it there will be no stopping you.

Surfing. If you’ve managed to stay dry in the kayak and fancy getting your hair wet then why not find some friends, grab a bunch of surfboards and head down to the beach. Don’t try to stand up straight away, learn by catching the waves lying down first and then slowly work your way to vertical as you get better. Surfing is one of those sports that is very addictive so be prepared for wrinkly fingers

Electric bike kits vs. bicycle engine kits

June 26th, 2009

Ah, semantics! Isn’t it always fun when someone tries to argue semantics with you? It always makes for great conversation on a first date and it ensures that the other person will like you when you show them your superior grasp of meaning in casual dialogue.

Sometimes, however, semantics can be important. Like when you’re researching electric bike kits. When looking for information online, people use all sorts of phrases in search of what they’re looking for: ‘electric bike kit,’ ‘electric bicycle kits,’ ‘bicycle engine kits,’ ‘electric bicycle engines,’ ‘electric bicycle conversion kit,’ ‘electric bicycle motors kits’ … the list goes on. Often, you find what you’re looking for with the right combination of words. Other times, like a gas-powered bike kit or an eBay listing for a non-descript ‘bicycle engine’ that does not include all of the other necessary parts to convert your bicycle, you’re pointed to something that you did not intend.

Technically speaking, the phrases ‘electric bicycle engine’ and ‘electric bike motor’ are the same thing. These days, when one says ‘engine’ or ‘bicycle engine kits’ it normally connotes a non-electric engine, and in the context of electric bicycle motor kits, (the qualifying term ‘electric’ aside) a motor refers to an electric motor.

According to the Dictionary of ever-useful.com to produce force and motion” and a motor is “a comparatively small and powerful engine, esp,an engine is “a machine for converting thermal energy into mechanical energy or power. an internal-combustion engine in an automobile, motorboat, or the like” and is “also called an electric motor. Electricity. A machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy, as an induction motor.”

That said, referring to electric bike kits as ‘bicycle engine kits,’ or their motors as ‘electric bicycle engines’ is not a misnomer, it’s just not the typically understood language. While an ‘electric bike kit’ specifies the type of power source, ‘bicycle engine kits’ could include both electric bicycle or folding electric bike engines and gas-powered bicycle engines.

A brief history of Giant electric bicycles

June 24th, 2009

More and more of our inventory has come to consist of Giant bikes as time has progressed. This can be attributed to two major reasons: 1) Giant bikes are very popular, and 2) We are very happy with Giant as a company. Giant has been extremely reliable, and their products have withstood the test of time again and again.

Giant electric bicycles are designed with a great deal of care with high quality. Once purchased, the owner of a Giant electric bicycle has to do very little to maintain the bike outside of your standard bike maintenance; the batteries need to be recharged, but the other electrical components rarely require any input, if any attention is even needed at all.

To Giant’s line-up of electric bikes, the Giant Suede E was a more recent addition and as such you still see plenty of them on the road. It features both a throttle and pedal assist. The Suede E’s secondary throttle feature allows for boosts in power and some light, effortless cruising in addition to pedal assist.

The Giant Twist Freedom is the newest addition to the world of electric bikes even folding electric bikes. Some of the best features of the Giant Lite and the Giant Seuede E embodied in the Giant Twist, years of user feedback and market research, and other new innovative improvements and cutting edge technology. Much like the Giant Lite, the Twist works with pedal assistance. While enjoying an incredibly comfortable, easy ride, you can set it to three very effective modes of assistance. And the best part yet? You have two light-weight, slim batteries to alternate between. By means of a switch on the handlebar, when one gets low, simply switch over to the next , allowing for an unprecedented range. 7-speeds, fenders, a rear rack, and pannier bags complete the package.

Racing Bikes Lighter Than Ever Before

June 20th, 2009

When it comes to road racing, particularly in time trials, everyone is looking to be a light as they possibly can. Pro cyclists are on very strict diets and watch their weight very carefully, but the racing bikes also need to pretty trim. Over the years the weight of time trials bikes had dropped quite dramatically, around 50g average over 5 years. Most people would consider this not a lot but when it comes to racing every gram counts. So which products are on the shelves right now that can make you and your bike lighter than ever?

Carbon fiber shoes
. When it comes to cycle clothing, light and strong is the key. Racers want their shoes to be very firm so that none of the energy that they generate is lost and instead all past into the crank. There has always been a compromise with shoes, either on weight or on strength. New carbon fiber shoes however solve the problem by being very light but also incredibly strong

Titanium spokes. Believe it or not, the weight of your spokes can add up to make a big difference in the overall weight of the bike. Carbon fiber spokes are available but their strength is not that affective when they so thin, so they are made thicker and have an impact on aerodynamics. The preferred option is now titanium spokes Zipp wheels now use and can be made to the same size steel ones, but are around half the weight.

Carbon bikes. The cyclist dream bike has to be the all-carbon fiber creation. These bikes have ultimate strength without being bogged down with excessive weight. Riders report that the ride comfort is also superb on carbon bikes, which bodes well if you are having to cover made kilometers on them at a time.where carbon fiber does currently slip up is the price of the stuff. It does not come cheap, which is why you’ll only see the top professionals using it for the time being.

The true nature of electric bikes

June 19th, 2009

Wimpy was always looking to grift a free meal and weasel his way out of situations he often himself had caused. When he was trying to placate an angry mob: “I’d like to invite you over to my house for a duck dinner or some of his famous lines include “I’d gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.” Once at a safe distance he’d yell “You bring the ducks!”

People ride electric bikes for so many reasons. Some people use them to commute to work. An electric bike will replace a car, reduce pollution, and allow you to get gentle exercise. Or, if you need to get to work appearing completely presentable, an electric bike will let you commute without breaking a sweat. As it is infinitely cheaper than a car, an electric bike is practical,to maintain or purchase one. Than taking taxis or car service,It’s more cheaper. For others, electric bikes allow them to conquer distances or hills that prevented them from biking prior. An electric bike is an enabler in that sense, further building the cycling community. Others yet turn to electric bikes due to knee surgery or the aging process. An electric bicycle allows them to continue to pursue what they love, what they’re passionate about. It lets them keep up with the grandkids. As electric bikes are fun, other people yet simply ride them. At the end of the day, electric bikes encourage cycling, promote it by making it as user friendly as possible, and help extend its benefits to the riders and their communities. This is hardly anything to scoff at.

Now, all of that said, please look at the man depicted to your right. Can you envision this man on an electric bike? No. No you cannot. Wimpy would not ride an electric bike. He definitely would not. He definitively would not. His essence, that which he is, simply does not correspond with the mere idea of an electric bike or even a folding electric bike.

Ezycommuter electric bike

June 19th, 2009

Hello ezycommuter! We feel that our two states share a kindred spirit of sorts while our shop may be located in New York. We’re both coastal states. We’re both famous for cultural centers and our business. We have Ellis Island, and you have Angel Island (’The Ellis Island of the West’). Both of us have many famous bridges. 90% of the movies produced in Hollywood are set in one of our two states. We spawned the Ramones, and you spawned Black Flag. Historically, we’ve both been at the forefront of progressive movements. Another such movement is currently underway: that of alternative transportation. New, viable forms of environmentally conscious and efficient transportation are taking root and growing as you read this. We aren’t a ezycommuter electric bicycle dealer, but we offer our services and products to ezycommuter .

Needless to say, we’ve shipped many of our electric bikes to Australia. In fact, we can say that out of every location that we ship to across the globe, ezycommuter is home to the largest number of our customers (outside of New York, of course.)  If your electric bike needs any servicing down the road, we can help point you to a nearby bike shop.
Ezycommuter and folding electric bikes go together swimmingly. Electric bikes use very little energy and don’t pollute the air which are an efficient form of day-to-day transportation. They make travel largely effortless, extend your riding range, and let you get to work without breaking a sweat. Electric bikes are the answer,if bicycling in your area is out of the question due to too many steep hills (we’re looking at you San Francisco). Our electric bikes are high torque, allowing you to conquer any hill with great ease, whether the bike uses a pedal activated system like the Giant Lite or a throttled system like the eZee Chopper.

Aluminium Bike Frames vs Steel Frames

June 15th, 2009

Bikes have been around for hundreds of years and there are so many different bikes to choose from now. Traditionally bikes have been made of steel but there have been many alternative bikes produced using different materials. A very popular alternative at the moment is aluminium, which is even now being used in snowboards and surfboards. So how does aluminum match up against the traditional steel frame?

Strength. Because aluminium as a metal has about 50% less tensile strength than steel, lots of people consider its use for aggressive bike riding not suitable. However, because aluminium is a great deal lighter than steel (forty percent lighter) the frames can afford to have a greater circumference and thus almost rival the strength of steel. That said, some forms of bike riding really do subject the frame to some extreme forces and in this instance thick strong steel is the only option.

Performance. Aluminium is around 1/3 as stiff as steel. Whilst you would automatically think a more forgiving ride would result, bike riders tend to say the opposite is true. Many say that they find steel-framed bikes have greater comfort. The performance of aluminum bikes does beat steel in events such as climbing or sprinting where weight really matters, but for more high-impact bike riding steel usually wins hands down

Cost. This really does vary on a number of factors, not least the quality of the steel. Some steels have been developed to be very light and even rival aluminium for weight, but these tend to be very expensive. Also, as aluminum use becomes more widespread, is costs in lower end products is coming down. However, due to the fact steel is more readily available and is the standard for most new and second hand bikes, it is usually cheaper than aluminium.

The Ebike Conversion Kit

June 15th, 2009

If you are looking at electric bikes as a way to increase your biking range and decrease your commute time, you are looking in the right place. Many people think to buy a pre-made ebike as their main bicycle and stick with that for all their around town transportation needs. But what if you already have a bike and do not see the need to shell out for a whole new set of wheels? Well, fortunately, with just a few hours of quality time with your screwdriver, there are some great ebike conversion kits on the market that will let you turn your existing ride into an electric battery operated powerhouse.

when you start to get tired after a long ride to the high end models that can turn your traditional human powered cycle into the next level down from a do it yourself Harley and Ebike conversion kits range in complexity and price from the most basic models that just give you a little extra boost through more difficult terrain. Okay, not quite, if you are willing to spend the money for a higher end model they can be quite powerful. Just like pre-fab ebikes or folding electric bikes, conversion kits come in a wide range of models, power levels and prices, and for the most part, barring the occasional great sale, you get what you pay for.

Conversion kits let your turn your bike into the same level of product as a traditional pre-made electric bicycle, with the same level of maintenance and quality… assuming the bike you put it on was a good one to start out with, of course. The great thing about conversion kits is that if you have a bike you dearly love and can’t stand to part with, you can upgrade it and get the extra power you want without having to give up your two wheeled baby.

Ebike - The Electric Folding Bike

June 13th, 2009

Have you ever considered biking to work instead of taking your car? What was it that stopped you? Maybe it was the thought of negotiating that one really steep hill, or maybe you get free parking anyway and you want to avoid dealing with the extra hassle of finding a secure space to store your bike in. Well, worry no longer because it is time you considered a folding electric bike.

Some of these bikes are normal sized bikes, full that can go anywhere a regular bike would be able to travel. A few folding bikes have smaller tires and a lower profile.

It’s funny that these particular bicycles fold up which make it easy to take them with you wherever you need to go. This means that you can simply fold up your bicycle and take it inside with you after you bike to work,. No more finding a parking space or looking for a safe place to lock it up!

Most folding bicycles are lighter than ordinary electric bikes, made of state of the art alloys and metals that are particularly strong for their lighter weight, and ebikes are no exception. While the battery does add a fair amount of weight to the entire unit, foldable ebikes are still perfectly possible to carry with you between the end of your trip and wherever you will be storing it for the day.

Having an foldable ebike is great if the places you go most often are out of walking distance but it seems silly to drive there. Using an electric bicycle instead can bridge the gap, offering you safe, reliable transportation at a far lower cost than that of conventional gas powered motor vehicles, and it is better for the environment as well. Ebikes do not have any exhaust to pollute the air with, and possibly best of all, they get you out and moving, something a lot of us could use a little help with.
